A tribute to  Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson, The ShiningThe key to The Shining’s terror is Kubrick’s full embrace of “the uncanny” as a psychological effect, essentially the eerie feeling that something is both familiar and strange at the same time doubling: déjà vu, mirrors. The Shining is filled with these elements.

Danny writes “redrum” on the outside of the bathroom door, and begins to repeatedly call “redrum”, alarming Wendy. When Wendy sees the word reversed in the bedroom mirror, the word is revealed to be “murder”, as jack begins hacking through the main door with a firefighter’s axe.
